How to Test Your Car's Battery

We here at Performance Ford Lincoln of Randolph, NJ want you to be an informed car owner. That is why we are excited to tell you all about how to test your car battery.

Before testing your battery, it is important to use a battery terminal cleaning tool if there is corrosion or other debris on the battery terminal. This will ensure a proper reading is taken by a voltmeter. Then, connect the respective positive and negative ends of the device to the positive and negative terminals of the battery. The positive end is usually red and the negative end is usually black. Then, read the voltmeter to see the voltage the battery is putting out. If the voltage is below 12.4 volts, it is time to speak with a trusted dealer to get a replacement.
